WELCOME TO 4K

Growth Mindset is an important part of our class. In 4K we will focus on grappling with problems to stretch our brains. Our class approached this task where we had to complete the picture with all the creativity and resilience we had. Take a look at what we did..........

SUPERB SYMMETRICAL 3-D ART

We have been learning about symmetry. We created 3-D symmetrical art that has at least one line of symmetry.

FANTASTIC FIELD TRIP!

The fourth graders had a wonderful time at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. We attended a workshop where we got to be geologists for a day and identify minerals by their properties. We also learned about how useful minerals are in our everyday life.

This activity helped us to understand that in order to be considered a mineral  it needs to  be all four of these things:
1.  A solid
2. Made by nature
3. NEVER alive
4. Same substance throughout

Here we are comparing the property of HEFT. This is one of the properties used to tell minerals apart.

How minerals break or fracture is another way to determine the type of mineral. We smashed HALITE (aka salt) and it broke into cubes. 

Here are some common uses for some minerals.

We got to eat lunch outside, picnic-style. Thanks to the beautiful weather!

4K is learning all about rocks and minerals and the rock cycle.

NIFTY NAVIGATOR'S GAME

We had a great time at today's Navigator's Baseball Game. First we were treated to a great performance of our National Anthem by the Proctor School Band. Then, we saw an entertaining baseball game. 

SADAKO SENSATION!

On Wednesday, May 31^st   the students in Mrs. Kelleher’s and Ms. Gibbas’ rooms participated in a special, cultural enrichment event based on the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr.

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes is based on the true story of a young Japanese girl who contracts leukemia as a result of the atom bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. The story follows Sadako as a healthy schoolgirl winning relay races, through her diagnosis with the atom bomb sickness, to her long stay in the hospital. It is in the hospital that she first begins making origami cranes to fulfill her wish of getting healthy. Our class read this story during our reading time.

We learned many movements and this is a sign of peace.

This movement shows the hope and belief that Sadako had throughout her illness. Her spirit was uplifted and soaring.

This movement symbolized the strength, determination and perseverance Sadako showed.
