FINDING FACTORS

Finding factors of a number is an important skill in math. 4K did a hands-on activity to show how you can use arrays to help find factors. We extended this to see the difference between prime numbers and composite numbers, too.

A "MAZE" ING MARBLE CHALLENGE!

In our first school-wide STEM challenge, students were asked to create a maze that includes obstacles and a track for a marble to travel through. The materials given:
1 paper plate
1 marble
scissors
tape - unlimited
yarn - unlimited
strips of paper - unlimited
Students worked in teams for 3 minutes to formulate a plan and 10 minutes to use as much of the materials given to design and build their mazes. Just look at what 4K made!

WHAT A CHARACTER!

What a Character!

4K is learning about inner and outer character traits. To introduce this idea, we used Disney Movie characters. Students worked in groups to identify character traits such as brave for Harry Potter and happy-go-lucky for Olaf. What a fun way to learn!

STICKS AND STONES

Words are Powerful!
Kindness Matters!
Sticks and Stones is a program that engages students using creativity, music, self-reflection, and a simple message that KINDNESS MATTERS AND WORDS ARE POWERFUL. Thanks tor TESPTO cultural enrichment for this opportunity!
Jeff and Skip kicked off a week long stay here at Proctor School with an all school assembly to get everyone thinking about what they say and do has a lasting impact on others. After the whole school assembly, 4K was able to have time with Skip and Jeff. They spent time reflecting about the assembly and the effect of things we say and do has on others. We became musicians for a day. Check it out....

TEAMWORK CHALLENGES

In 4K, we learned the importance of teamwork with two challenges.

Pumpkin Challenge:
We had to raise and lower a stuffed pumpkin without dropping it while everyone held one string on which the pumpkin sat. It took quite a few tries, but the class listened to and experimented with each others' suggestions and ideas of how best to accomplish the task.

Tallest Tower:
Each group had to use index cards to build the tallest tower. The catch was they could only use a card AFTER they wrote something they all had in common on the card. This took lots of patience, cooperation and communication.
